Nationals fear more regional police station closures in future as funding issues come into focus
Auckland Council’s chief executive, David Burrell, says the issue of a regional force operating in Auckland has been around since the 1960s.
He says any new police force is bound to have to overcome a number of issues, including funding issues and an inability to reach its targets for expenditure.
“We’re moving into a different environment now and this is a key part of that,” he told the Times.
“The regional force structure does give us flexibility but we’ve got to be realistic with the funding that we have.”
Councillor Andrew Cuthbertson says any changes will need to come from Parliament because “it’s only the city council which has authority over the police force”.
“It’s only Parliament’s money that will allow us to meet our target for spending over €60 million on police and other policing services,” he said.
However, Chief Executive David Burrell says there’s an alternative for the service and has been talking to councils about options for more money.
“We’ve been talking to various community organisations and it seems we’re getting there but it’s a matter of getting it on the table with the council,” he said.
“The city council needs to know the priorities we need to do for them.”
Mr Cuthbertson says he remains critical of the current police commission but he is hopeful tCDC 철도청 카지노hat a solution can be found.
“We must have an open and honest debate about this,” he said.
“We’re at a very serious crisis point – I am in my fifth year of serving – if we don’t come to some real compromise then I fear the pu바카라blic are going to see a real drop off in public confidence.
“If [Chief Executive] Burrell has his way, there will be more closures카지노톡.”
